Ron: Prison Gifts

One holiday season, the Salvation Army’s mobile toyshop was visiting a prison, providing gifts for inmates to give to their children for Christmas. In prison for his third time, Ron sat quietly in the corner until approached by a volunteer. Ron was recently blessed with a son whom he’d never met because he was born while Ron was in prison. Ron spotted a basketball and decided he wanted to give it to his son. The volunteer told him that the ball wasn’t an age-appropriate gift for his infant boy, but Ron replied, “I want something constructive for my son’s hands. When I was young I used my hands for evil and I don’t want that for my son. I want his hands on a ball, not a gun.”
